Where do you buy your clothes? : r/Frugal
Main Post: Where do you buy your clothes? : r/Frugal
Is it me or does anyone else feel like the fashions aren't hitting anymore?
Main Post:
Don't get me wrong. I still keep on eye out for fashion trends but I've felt that since Covid the fashions have been uninspiring and repetitive. Is it just me ?
Top Comment: My biggest peeve is not being able to find quality clothes made of good materials. It's all cheap, thin, fast fashion crap.
help me figure out what the average human's clothing basics should be
Main Post:
I am NOT talking about like closet basics in a fashion sense.
I quite literally mean, what does a person need to have in their wardrobe to function in day to day life. my wardrobe is a bit understaffed if that makes sense. i don't have what i need all the time.
It gives me so much overwhelm when I walk into a store because there are so many options out there and well, everything is catered to consumerism so you want things you don't need.
Aesthetic notes: I feel a pull towards the hiking gear, functional clothing, uniqlo aesthetic
There's stuff that I NEED (jacket, pants) and there's stuff that would be good to have (another skirt because I wear the same one alllllllllll the time, another pair of pajama pants, oversized tshirts to wear at home)
But what are the most important basics you think? What should I prioritise first??
Top Comment: I think this definitely depends on your job and your lifestyle (active, sedentary, hobbies, etc). Some people will need outdoor gear, while some don’t. Some people will need clothes they can get very dirty in (gardening, painting, etc). Some people need active gear, swimwear, dress up clothing, suits, dress shoes, and some need none of that.
Could someone please tell me in no uncertain terms what clothes I need to buy to look modern and not like a frump?

I'm truly at a loss, despite trying to collect new clothes for ages, I still don't have any sense of style or any idea what to buy or wear. This is an SOS. Please tell me like I'm a child or an alien new to this world. I look around and all I see is athleisure that looks great if you're thin and attractive but I am neither of those things and I don't hold my body with any confidence
Top Comment: This probably isn’t what you want to hear, but you won’t like much of anything until you manage your feelings and expectations about your body. I dressed people professionally for years and this was a huge part of my process even though my workplace didn’t address it. I never laid out rules or something, but I made it clear at the beginning of appointments that it wasn’t a place to hate on oneself; my fitting room space was one to feel safe and try new things. It led to my clientele finding things they genuinely felt good in. Can you describe your body? What’s one thing that you’re uncomfortable with? And what are two things you like about your appearance?
